DuckDuckGo Offline Guide

How to use CannaNote offline in DuckDuckGo browser, protect your data from the Fire Button, and manage storage.

DuckDuckGo Offline Guide

DuckDuckGo's browser is built for privacy. Its aggressive data clearing features need some attention to protect your CannaNote journal.

The Fire Button Warning

DuckDuckGo has a Fire Button 🔥 that clears all browsing data with one tap. This includes your journal entries.

Protect CannaNote (Fireproof the Site)

On Mobile:

  1. Visit cannanote.app
  2. Tap the menu
  3. Tap Fireproof This Site
  4. CannaNote data now survives the Fire Button

On Desktop:

  1. Visit cannanote.app
  2. Click the Fire Button 🔥
  3. Before confirming, look for "Fireproof This Site"
  4. Or: Right-click the Fire Button → Manage Fireproof Sites

What Fireproofing Does

  • Your journal entries survive when you use the Fire Button
  • Cached pages and login session are preserved
  • You stay signed in
  • Other sites still get cleared normally

Installing CannaNote

On Mobile (iOS / Android)

  1. Visit cannanote.app in DuckDuckGo
  2. Tap the menu
  3. Tap Add to Home Screen
  4. CannaNote appears as an app icon

Note: DuckDuckGo mobile uses the system's WebView (WebKit on iOS, varies on Android), so PWA support depends on your device.

On Desktop (Mac)

DuckDuckGo for Mac supports adding sites:

  1. Visit cannanote.app
  2. Look for install/add options in the menu
  3. Or bookmark it for quick access

Managing Cached Data

The Safe Approach

With DuckDuckGo, the safest approach is:

  1. Fireproof CannaNote (see above)
  2. Use the Fire Button freely for other browsing
  3. Your journal stays intact

Manual Cache Clearing

If you need to clear just CannaNote's cache:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Look for Site settings or Website data
  3. Find cannanote.app
  4. Clear cache while keeping site data

Note: Options vary between DuckDuckGo mobile and desktop versions.

DuckDuckGo-Specific Notes

Why the Fire Button Matters

DuckDuckGo is designed to leave no trace. That's great for privacy, but it means your journal gets wiped if you forget to fireproof. We strongly recommend fireproofing CannaNote immediately after first use.

Privacy Alignment

CannaNote's privacy-first design works perfectly with DuckDuckGo:

  • No trackers to block
  • No third-party cookies
  • All data stays local
  • DuckDuckGo's protections enhance your privacy

Email Protection

If you signed up for CannaNote using a DuckDuckGo email alias (@duck.com), everything works normally. We only send emails you've explicitly requested.

Quick Reference

Action How
Fireproof CannaNote Menu → Fireproof This Site
Add to Home Screen Menu → Add to Home Screen
Use Fire Button safely Fireproof first, then Fire freely
View fireproof sites Fire Button menu → Manage Fireproof Sites

Important Reminder

Fireproof CannaNote before using the Fire Button.

If you've already used the Fire Button without fireproofing, your journal data may be gone. If you had cloud sync enabled, sign back in to restore. If not, we're sorry - the data is unrecoverable.

Going forward: Fireproof first, Fire freely.
